Our Mission

Sowing Wildflowers is a project created by and for Black survivors of interpersonal and state violence where we are dreaming of a world where all Black people have what they need to live a life free from violence and full of joy, connection, and care. At Sowing Wildflowers, we want to create spaces for learning, skill-sharing, challenging dominant narratives about who survivors are and what they need, and demanding that our experiences be acknowledged and honored in this movement.

Our Values

At Sowing Wildflowers we:

  1. Commit to practicing equity which means centering the experience and wisdom of Black folks, unlearning and resisting ableism, and committing to the safety and protection of all gender identities

  2. Pause, learn, and reflect to avoid replicating oppression

  3. Practice responses to violence that do not uphold other violent structures or legitimize carceral systems

  4. Approach conflict and accountability rooted in growth and transformation

  5. Honor shared decision-making processes, allowing all to voice concerns and ensure each organizational decision is in alignment with our collective vision

  6. Understand that intentional collaboration is important resistance work that undermines the sustainability of white supremacy and the isolation it creates

  7. Build a community of people who prioritize collective care and are value-driven

  8. Share labor, resisting the traps of the NPIC (Non-profit industrial complex) and white supremacy culture
